Amazon sets release date for first African film Gangs of Lagos – The Hollywood Reporter

Amazon is preparing to release its first original African film, Lagos gangson Prime Video on April 7.

The crime thriller directed by Jáde Osiberu, stars Nigerian actors Tobi Bakare, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Chike Osebuka, Chioma Chukwuka and Iyabo Ojo. Filled with action scenes, the picture centers around a group of childhood friends who each have to navigate through growing up in the bustling streets and neighborhood of Isale Eko, Lagos, the largest city in the country.

As the first Nigerian original to be released on Prime Video, Lagos gangs Wangi Mba-Uzokwu, Head of Nigerian Assets at Prime Video, said in a statement.

The first Amazon original to come from Nollywood references Nigeria as the most populous African country that has become a major battleground in the Hollywood streaming wars. Netflix has its own slate of African originals, which includes Knight King From Mo Abudu’s Nigerian production company Ebonylife Studios, with whom that broadcast company has a deal.

Director Ospero hailed his ability to elevate Nigerian stories on a global platform through Prime Video: “I am delighted to introduce audiences to this epic story and A-List talents from Nigeria with the release of Lagos gangs.

Lagos gangs It follows other Nollywood movies and series that are already streaming on Prime Video, including Brotherhood, King of Thieves, Oh You!, Pallava! And lol: the last one laughing nigga Debuts later this year.
