Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar Jones to Star in Carl Sagan Biopic – The Hollywood Reporter

Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar Jones have signed on to star TravelersDirector Sebastien Lelio’s biopic about the true love story of celebrated astronomer Carl Sagan and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Ann Druyan.

Ben Browning produces Travelers from FilmNation Entertainment, along with Druyan and Lynda Obst. FilmNation will begin worldwide sales of the upcoming project at the Cannes Film Market later this month.

The film takes place in 1977 as NASA prepares to launch the first interstellar human probes, the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 missions. A team, led by Sagan, sets out to create a message to accompany them: the Golden Record, a collection of images and sounds meant to express the essence of humanity and action. It serves as a first-contact greeting for any galactic life that the tentacles may come across. . But what begins as a race against time becomes an epic and unexpected love story between Sagan and his sidekick, Daryan.

Lelio and Jessica Goldberg co-wrote the film’s screenplay Travelers Based on interviews with Druyan and others who worked on the Golden Record project.

Garfield and Edgar-Jones co-star in the FX limited series under the banner of heaven, for which Garfield earned his first Emmy Award nomination and Edgar Jones his second Golden Globe nomination. Double Oscar nominee – about Tick, Tick … Boom! (2022) and Hacksaw Ridge (2017) – Garfield is currently in production on the upcoming John Crowley movie We live in timestarring alongside Florence Pugh.
