It is also said that young Eren, who is initially seen sitting under the tree, is closing his eyes at this moment (as shown in the manga). When he does, he sees Mikasa as an older, wiser version of herself. He cries when he opens his eyes and finds a younger version of her. And then he asks questions about the reason for his crying.
This moment is considered a closure for all manga readers as it marks a complete cycle that they will witness. The studio’s inclusion of this series is like saying “goodbye” to viewers who have watched this series for over 10 years.
