Things get serious on The Bachelorette when Gabby and Rachel meet the families of the remaining men on dates in Episode 7 in their hometown. There were definitely some ups and some downs – let’s get right into it.
Jason’s hometown: New Orleans, LA
Gabby arrives in Jason’s hometown of New Orleans and the couple enjoys everything the vibrant city has to offer. They then meet Jason’s father at a park to enjoy some beignets and get to know each other.
Gabby meets the rest of Jason’s family that evening, including his mother, sister, and his sister’s boyfriend. His mother notes that the pair seem to be on the right side and have gotten a good feeling out of Gabby overall. Jason tells his mom that he’s not ready to propose to her just yet, but maybe that could change in the next two weeks.
Zach’s hometown: Anaheim, CA
Rachel meets Zach on his date in his hometown of Anaheim. They ride their bikes (not through a field of tulips this time) and arrive for a little surprise Zach prepared. Going back to their first date where they discussed how their dads used to take them to the airport to watch planes take off and land, Zach takes Rachel to the roof of a building where they sit and do just that!
As evening falls, Rachel meets Zach’s mother, father, sister, aunt and uncle. He tells his mom he can see a future with Rachel, and while his mom and dad seem a little worried about how quickly everything has gone, the family as a whole seems happy for them both.
After we meet the family, Zach tells Rachel the big news: he’s in love with her! Though she doesn’t reply, Rachel says Zach is perfect.
Johnny’s hometown: Palm Beach, FL
Next, Gabby drives to Johnny’s hometown in Palm Beach. She notes that although they got off to a slower start, she and Johnny feel like they have a very deep connection.
Upon arriving at Johnny’s childhood home, Gabby meets his mother, father, brother, his brother’s girlfriend and his best friend Perry. As they sit and chat, Gabby tells us that she feels like she’s known her for years, so she’s very comfortable with his family. Could wedding bells be ringing in their future?
Well, maybe not, because Johnny tells his mother that while he thinks Gabby is great and perfect, he might “not quite be ready” to marry her. His mother agrees that marriage is a big decision and she will support him in any decision he makes.
At the end of the day, Gabby tells us that she could imagine falling for Johnny… but it sounds like she’s not quite there yet.
Tyler’s hometown: Wildwood, NJ
After sunny Florida we make our way to the Jersey shore. Tyler’s date night in his hometown gets off to a fun start as he and Rachel have the entire boardwalk to themselves to enjoy bumper cars, corn dogs, funnel cakes and a romantic Ferris wheel ride.
It’s only when Rachel unexpectedly runs into several of Tyler’s friends that she begins to be very concerned about including his family. She mentions that her relationship feels behind the others and eventually decides to end it with him before moving on to hometown.
Considering Tyler tells Rachel he’s in love with her right before she breaks up with him, he seems to be taking the news pretty well, as you can see in the video above in the synopsis.
Erich’s hometown: Bedminster, NJ
From South Jersey we move to North Jersey to Erich’s date in his hometown with Gabby. Before meeting his family, Erich tells them about his difficult family situation as his father has been battling cancer for three years. They don’t know how long his dad will live, so meeting his family is super important for Gabby.
Upon arrival, Gabby meets Erich’s father, mother, sister, grandma and grandpa. They get an update from his dad saying he has his good days and bad but unfortunately his recent CAT scan shows his cancer is coming back more aggressively. Gabby and Erich’s father bond over their shared experiences as Gabby is an ICU nurse and his father recently spent 40 days in the ICU. Erich’s mother makes it clear to both him and Gabby the importance of making sure they are ready for the bond of marriage.
Later in the day, the couple enjoys a cocktail together and Erich shares that he is falling in love with Gabby. She says words carry a lot of weight but ultimately shares that she is falling in love with him too. Maybe wedding bells are still ringing in Gabby’s future.
Tino’s hometown: Santa Clarita, CA
We end the episode with Tino’s hometown date in Southern California where Rachel meets his father, mother and brother.
Tino’s parents are quite skeptical about the whole process from the start. They ask several pointed questions that allude to the couple not having had much time to get to know each other or interact outside of the bachelor “bubble.”
Rachel is very discouraged after telling Tino that she feels his parents really don’t like her. He tells her he’s so sure of her and finally says he’s falling in love with her. Rachel shares that she feels the same way, but is still concerned about how the family visit went as she wants her approval.
Aven’s hometown… You must wait!
If it feels like one of the men’s hometowns is missing, it’s because it was!
We’ll have to tune in next week to see how Aven’s hometown date with Rachel goes.
Then follows an explosive episode of The Men Tell All, which pits the ladies against the men who sent them home. It’s all coming next week on The Bachelorette.
