Chance Rapper Paul McCartney Added to 2023 Tribeca Festival – The Hollywood Reporter

2023 Tribeca Festival added panel discussions with David Fincher, Paul McCartney, Patty Jenkins and reunion performances New Jack City And How did Stella get her groove back?which is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary.

The annual New York Festival, which runs from June 7-18, has announced the line-ups for the Talks and Reunions sections.

The Storytellers Series panel discussion series will feature McCartney in conversation with Conan O’Brien to a live recording of the previous late night host. Conan O’Brien needs a friend podcast, John Mellencamp in Conversation with David Letterman, Lin-Manuel Miranda in Conversation with Rosie Perez, and separate conversations with Chance the Rapper, Billy Porter, Hailee Steinfeld, and Diplo.

The Director’s Talks series will feature sessions between Fincher and Steven Soderbergh full circle The series is also premiering at the festival, as are Jenkins and Katie Holmes.

Planned reunion shows include New Jack City With Mario Van Peebles, Michael Michel and Fab 5 Freddy, Presentation for the 25th Anniversary of How did Stella get her groove back? With Angela Bassett and Kevin Sullivan celebrating the 40th anniversary of Wild Style With Charlie Ahern, Lee Quinones, Fab 5 Freddy and Grand Wizard Theodore.

The Tribeca Festival also revealed that the third annual Harry Belafonte Voices for Justice Award, given to those who have used storytelling to effect change in their communities, will be awarded to Jane Fonda and will be presented by Alicia Keys. The show will include a conversation between Fonda and Robin Roberts.

“As an artist, Harry Belafonte has won audiences over with his talent, but it’s his work as an activist and educator that really sets him apart,” said Paula Weinstein, Chief Content Officer at Tribeca. “Harry has inspired countless artists to use their fame and talent in the name of justice. He set an example and was a fearless warrior for civil rights. Jane Fonda, recipient of this year’s Harry Belafonte Award for Social Justice, shares Harry’s unwavering commitment to activism. We are honored to have We have established this award in Harry’s name to honor his continuing legacy.”

He announced that this year’s festival will offer master classes on filmmaking with Mike Flanagan, on the role of actor talent and fact-checking with The New Yorker.

“We are thrilled to unveil the dynamic lineup of Tribeca Festival Talks, Reunions and Master Classes from some of the entertainment industry’s most talented and celebrated voices,” said Meredith Mohr, Vice President of Artist Relations for Tribeca. “It is our hope that the fascinating stories and invaluable insights of these distinguished cultural icons will inspire and empower the next generation of creators and artists.”

The Tribeca news comes as unionized Hollywood writers have gone on strike after failed negotiations with the group representing studios and production companies. Although there are a number of writers in the aforementioned lineup, Fincher, Soderbergh, Jenkins, and O’Brien are all currently planning to attend.
