AUSTIN, Texas — Elon Musk wants to bring Hyperloop tunnels to central Texas.

The Tesla CEO recently tweeted about the construction of a tunnel between Austin and San Antonio. He mentioned the idea in a twitter thread over the tunnels.

The two cities are approximately 80 miles apart along a stretch of Interstate 35.

“Would be cool to do a (oversimplified) Hyperloop demo tunnel between maybe Austin and San Antonio,” Musk tweeted.

He stated that a tunnel stretching between both cities “would be the quickest way to get between one inner city and another with known physics”.

Tunnels made by Musk’s The boring company, are already in use in Las Vegas. That Loop of the Las Vegas Convention Center is a three-station transit system consisting of a 1.7-mile tunnel The Boring Company website. The tunnel reduced a 45-minute journey to around two minutes.

According to the company’s website, The Boring Company is building two additional loops in Las Vegas.

Musk’s idea to connect the two Texas cities stems from a June report that said The Boring Company had applied to build a tunnel near the Tesla Gigafactory in eastern Travis County.

According to a report by Austin BusinessJournalthe address for the project is on the west side of State Highway 130, while the Tesla factory is east of the same highway.
