Earlier this month, President Joe Biden signed the so-called Anti-Inflation Law of 2022 after the Democrats rammed it through Congress with no GOP support. The measure involved billions of dollars in funding for the Internal Revenue Service. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Tuesday that he believes every lawmaker who has voted to pass legislation should face a mandatory annual review by the IRS.
DeSantis claimed that IRS agents hired over the bill would be used to target those the “government doesn’t like.” He said they won’t just target billionaires, noting that billionaires have accountants as well as lawyers – the governor said they will go after those who can’t “resist these scrutiny”.

In an August 10th Letter Writing to IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said: “I caution that no additional resources — including newly hired employees or accountants — may be used to increase the proportion of small businesses or households below $400,000 thresholds, which are checked relative to historical levels.”
During his comments Tuesday, DeSantis also called out Biden’s plan to eliminate massive amounts of federal debt for student loans, saying that Biden does not have the authority to take the step. The Biden administration plans Forgive $10,000 in federal student loan debt for those earning less than $125,000 a year—those receiving Pell Grants would see $20,000 in federal student loan debt paid off.
DeSantis, who previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, is currently seeking re-election during the Sunshine State’s 2022 gubernatorial race. The incumbent Republican governor will run against Democrat Charlie Crist in the general election.
After winning the state’s Democratic gubernatorial primary last week, Crist said he didn’t want the votes of DeSantis supporters, suggesting they carry hatred in their hearts. California Gov. Gavin Newsom said last week that he had pledged $100,000 to Crist. Crist’s comrades-in-arms, Karla HernandezHe is the chairman of a left-wing teachers’ union.
