Katy Perry’s connection to the royal family

The BBC reported on the performers for King Charles’ coronation, which included Katy Perry alongside Lionel Richie, British pop group Take That, Freya Ridings and Alexis Ffrench, and opera stars Bryn Terfel and Andrea Bocelli.

King Charles and Katy Perry met for the first time during an event in Mumbai, India in 2019. A year later, Perry was appointed Ambassador for the British Asian Trust by Charles. The King said the Fireworks singer’s long-standing commitment to charitable causes was the reason for her appointment as an ambassador. Some criticized Charles’ decision because, they said, Perry was neither Asian nor British to be appointed ambassador of such a trust.

Giving charity, Berry referred to her friendship with Charles and said the former Prince of Wales was “a very kind soul”. After being announced as one of the performers for the coronation weekend of King Charles III, Perry said her concert would help, “shed more light on the British Asian Child Protection Fund”.

Lionel Richie has also performed at Coronations and even brought King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their feet. The Academy Award winning singer is also linked to King Charles III. Richie was appointed by the King as the first global ambassador for The Prince’s Trust – a charitable foundation founded by the latter in 1976.
