IRCTC announces 15 days of ‘North East Discovery’ package starting March 21. See itinerary, price here
According to the IRCTC, the northeastern states are a mix of scenic natural beauty, healthy weather, rich biodiversity, rare wildlife, historic sites, ethnic heritage, and most importantly, hospitable people. This train journey shows this and much more in a span of 15 days. This is part of the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train program which is in line with the initiative of the Government of India “Dekho Apna Desh” to promote special interest circuits in domestic tourism.
Prime Minister Modi, addressing the post-budget webinar on ‘Tourism Development in Mission Mode’, said India has huge potential for tourism including coastal, beach, mangrove, Himalaya, adventure, nature, eco- , heritage and spiritual tourism. “Some people think tourism is a fancy word for high-income groups, but in India it has a long socio-cultural context,” said the prime minister.

Speaking of the IRCTC’s Northeast Package, the 14-night/15-day tour covers states such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya.

The tour starts from Delhi (DSJ) then proceeds to Guwahati – Naharlagun – Sibsagar Town – Furkating – Kumarghat – Agartala – Dimapur – Guwahati.

Tour Price:
According to the IRCTC, the railways provide about 33 percent concession for the promotion of rail tourism under the Bharat Gaurav train plan. The prices below include the concession.
There are 3 types of packages: 1AC (Coupe), 1AC (Cabin) and 2AC
Price for 1AC (Coupe) for sharing with two persons costs €1,49,290. The cost for 1AC (cabin) varies from €1,50,100- €1,29,400 depending on single, double and triple occupancy. For 2AC, the cost varies from €1,25,090 to €1,04,390. The price for a child with bed for 1AC (cabin) will cost €1.24.350 and without a bed it will cost €1,21,760. For 2AC cost price for child with bed €99,350 and without a bed it will cost €96,750.
Destinations during the trip:
Assam: Kamakhya Temple, one of the oldest Shakti Peeths (the seat of the Shakti cult), Sunset Cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra River, Umananda Temple in Guwahati, Sivasagar, the capital of Ahom kingdom. It is known for its Shiva temple, Ahom palaces and monuments, Assam tea plantations in Jorhat, Kaziranga National Park (home to one-horned rhinoceroses, tigers and birds).
Arunachal Pradesh: Itanagar
tripura: Shaivite site Unakoti known for its petroglyphs and wall paintings, the imposing Ujjayanta Palace and the magnificent Neermahal – the only lake palace in the Northeast, Tripura Sundari (Shakti Temple).
Nagaland: The capital of Kohima, Khonoma Village.
Meghalaya: Waterfalls, Root Bridge and Caves, Shillong and Cherrapunji are covered.
