Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Stars Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff first attached as fellow aliens in the MCU, but also as two of the few guardians who can socialize regularly after work. None of the actors had families to tend to during filming, so they could explore the Atlanta karaoke scene for all it has to offer.
It was a whirlwind for Gilan, Klementieff, and the rest of the members Guardians Cast due to writer-director James Gunn’s dramatic exit from the film, it was followed by his triumphant return less than a year later. So it’s only fitting that the final chapter in this iteration of Guardians is also an emotional ride.
“I can’t stop thinking about it,” Gillan says. Hollywood Reporter. “We shot it a year ago, and it was still such an emotional roller coaster. I would cry hysterically and then I would laugh hysterically, and I would alternate between those feelings.”
Klementieff’s praying mantis has a range of powers such as mind control and the ability to induce sleep, but most importantly, the ability to sense the feelings and emotions of others. And while it’s overwhelming to have talent, the French actor thinks the entire world would benefit if he were more like a mantis.
“Nowadays, in the world we live in, there are many people who lack empathy, especially politicians,” Klementieff says with a laugh. “So it’s nice to remind people that it’s very important for them to be empathetic to each other.”
in marketing for Guardians 3There’s a disguised image of Nebula holding what appears to be a helpless Peter “Star-Lord” Quill (Chris Pratt), and to create the visual, an alarmingly lifelike puppet of Pratt’s character was fabricated.
“It was very scary,” Gillan shares. “It had pores. It had fuzz on human skin. It was so lifelike, obviously, jokes ensued.”
“It was so real I could barely look at it. We wanted to shoot some weird, funny videos, and then we said, ‘We can’t do that because it looks so real,'” adds Klementieff.
Below, during a recent conversation with THRGillan and Klementieff can’t help but wonder where the Peter Quill doll is now.
So what was the most emotional day: the first day after everything that happened or your last days on the set?
Boom Klementieff: The last days for sure.
Karen Gillan: Yes, it was very hard to get over those final moments and having to face the reality of saying goodbye.
Klimentiev: Yes, it was difficult, but it was a beautiful sight.

Did both of you first hit the makeup trailer while applying your prosthetics?
Klimentiev: I mean yes.
Gilan: Kind of, yeah!
Klimentiev: But also, when we weren’t shooting, we’d hang out, have drinks and food, and sing karaoke.
Gilan: When Bom joined the cast, it was like, “Yeah!” Because we are the same age.
Klimentiev: And we don’t have kids, so it was easier.
Gilan: Yes! We’re in a different chapter of our lives compared to others, and so we’ve managed it party!
Klementieff and Gilan: (He laughs.)
The two of you read this script together years ago and you both said that you cried together. Did the actual movie hit you both harder?
Klimentiev: Oh my God, the movie is so heartbreaking and so beautiful and so profound.
Gilan: Yes, I first saw it at the LA premiere two nights ago, and I can’t stop thinking about it. And I watched it somewhat objectively because there was some distance. We shot it a year ago, and it was still such an emotional roller coaster. I would cry hysterically and then I would laugh hysterically, and I would alternate between those emotions. It was an emotional journey.
Klimentiev: Yes, it was so sweet to tell Rocket’s story and all the trauma he’s been through. All of the characters shine in their own way, and it’s a nice arc for each character. It’s a really magical feeling.
Boom, Mantis can do many things, but most of all, she can feel another person’s pain, which feels like a huge burden. Our pain can sometimes be too much. Do you consider her powers more of a curse than a blessing?
Klimentiev: Oh, it’s a beautiful force, and nowadays, in the world we live in, there are many people who lack empathy, especially politicians. (He laughs.) So it’s nice to show and remind people that it’s very important to be empathetic to one another.
Are you sympathetic as well?
Klimentiev: Yes, of course, but I think all actors are in some ways. We have to be.
Gilan: it’s the truth. It is certainly a trait that most of us share in order to understand people.
Karen, I know you worked with the alternate Gamora a bit Avengers: EndgameBut did it take you a minute to get used to this new version of Zoe Saldana? The dynamic of Nebula and Gamora is very different now.
Gilan: Yes, it did take a bit of an adjustment, if only because I got to know Gamora so well and being a certain way. And now it’s a completely different version of the character, but I thought so [Zoe’s] The performance gave her so much life, because she was so different. So I love this version of Gamora. She’s really badass, and is just willing to do these crazy things in crazy situations, which makes her a bit unpredictable as a character. So I enjoyed that.
Nebula has more advanced weapons in this movie…
Gilan: Yes, I got a new arm from Rocket. It is very cool and does everything anyone needs at any time. (He laughs.) turns into all sorts of things.
Klimentiev: Do you open the doors?
Gilan: (He laughs.) The doors can open.
Klimentiev: Doors explode! bubble!
Gilan: Yes, it can turn into a hair dryer, but Nebula doesn’t need to.
Klementieff and Gilan: (He laughs.)

Of all the action sets, was the “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” sequence the most challenging for you both?
Gilan: Oh yes!
Klimentiev: It starts with this wonderful slow walk.
Gilan: We loved doing this walk!
Klimentiev: It was really amazing to shoot in the new outfit, and yes, the fight scene was very technical, but just so amazing. And the cast and camera department were amazing. Everyone has to be in sync to make it perfect.
Gilan: The camera operator was on the wires and flying around.
Klimentiev: It took a while to get it right, but once we got it right, it was a relief.
Gilan: I had to fight while all my bones were broken. I’ll leave you with that.
Klimentiev: You did it for real, right?
Gilan: Yes, I broke all my bones.
Klementieff and Gilan: (He laughs.)

Karen, do you feel bad about Chris Pratt’s pregnancy?
Gilan: Oh, my God. I don’t, because I’ll admit it wasn’t Chris. It was Chris’s doll.
Klimentiev: It looked exactly like him.
Gilan: It was very creepy.
Klimentiev: He looked dead. It was very, very scary.
Gilan: He was that Lifelike even though it was dead.
Klimentiev: It was so real I could barely look at it.
Gilan: It had pores. He had fuzz on human skin. It was lively, and obviously jokes ensued.
Klimentiev: Yes, it was scary. We wanted to shoot some weird, funny videos, and then we said, “You know what? We can’t do that because it looks so real.”
Klementieff and Gilan: (He laughs.)
Klimentiev: We don’t know where she is now. that’s the problem.
Gilan: Someone got it in his bedroom.
Klimentiev: Yes, that may be true. not me. Is this you?
Gilan: What? no! do not look at me like that. Of course, not me! My husband will have some questions about why I have a doll [Chris] in my bedroom.
Klementieff and Gilan: (He laughs.)
Karen, in Guardians of the Galaxy holiday specialDid Nebula steal the actual Bucky (Sebastian Stan) arm? Did you ask Wakanda to make another one? Or did she get a replica on the black market?
Gilan: I pulled him out of it with brute force. She wanted to get a cool gift of a rocket, and she thought it would be a really cool gift. His eye was on that arm, and he’s doing a pokey truly need it?
Klimentiev: (He laughs.) I just want to see Bucky in the upcoming movies with one arm.
Gilan: Weaponless and Hatred Nebula.
Boom, did you tell Karen all? Mission: Impossible – Dead reckoning secrets?
Klimentiev: God told her some secrets.
Gilan: I’m the bearer of some exciting secrets.
Klementieff and Gilan: (He laughs.)
Did you both enjoy making fun of your professions on the Holiday Special?
Gilan: definitely!
Klimentiev: It was my favorite part. I like it very much.
Gilan: We must be ridiculed at all times.
Klimentiev: Yes, I loved him very much, because throughout my career and my life as an actor, I’ve met people who take themselves too seriously and I just can’t stand that. So it was interesting to say these lines.
Decades from now, when you get together for the anniversary of that movie, what day will you first mention each other?
Klimentiev: Oh my God, we have so many memories. It’s hard to pinpoint something specific.
Gilan: It’s just all the little moments we communicate as human beings.
Klimentiev: Yes, when we laugh and make fun of each other and be a fool.
Gilan: Yes, especially since we were all dressed in spacesuits. It’s actually quite funny because we forget that we’re dressed as aliens half the time. I don’t even notice, and that must look really weird from the outside.
Klimentiev: Yes, I like to touch the antennas a little bit. He was so kind to all the little kids in the group. I was like, “Do you want to touch my antennae?” And they were like, “Yeah!”
