Oscars 2023: What categories did the Academy omit? I read here


The wait is finally over! The much-anticipated awards night is set to take place on March 12, 2023. The Academy Awards are known for their glitz and glamour, and the Academy Awards 2023 is no different. Over the years, the Academy Awards ceremony has seen a lot of changes, including adjustments in category selection. Some categories have been included while some have been left out for various reasons. To simplify the award ceremony, several categories have been merged and the number of awards has been reduced. Here are the few Oscar categories the Academy has discontinued, take a look —

Better write an address

This category was introduced to appreciate the importance of title writing in movies. This category did not last long and was removed after the 1930 Academy Awards.

Best Supporting Director and Best Dance Direction

The Best Supporting Director category was introduced in 1993 to recognize assistant directors. With the passage of time, the Academy Awards have become more focused on popularity than recognizing hard work. Therefore, the category became less associated and was dissolved in 1937. While the Academy Awards for Best Dance Direction were introduced in 1935 and dissolved in 1937. Since then, most choreographers have not received Academy recognition.

Best Director (Comedy)

This category was introduced to honor directors who do an outstanding job in comedy. Earlier, the Best Director category was divided into comedy and drama. This category was later discontinued and merged into the Best Dramatic Director category.

Best original story

This category was introduced to recognize the contribution of screenwriters who make stories. However, the story was resolved after the award ceremony in 1957.

Academy Juvenile Award

The award was presented from 1935 to 1961. However, the category was abolished and its recognition was later combined with the Best Supporting Actor and Actress category.
