Telangana is ordering half day lessons for all schools, check new times
The Telangana government has ordered all schools to work reduced hours (half a day) until the last working day of the ongoing academic session in the wake of rising temperatures in the state, according to an official notice from the school education director.
On March 15, 2023, the half-day school times came into effect. Students will now attend school from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until April 24, 2023.
“All regional joint directors of school education and district education officials in the state are hereby notified that half days will commence from March 15 to the last business day, which is April 24, 2023,” the order read.
The notice stated that primary, senior primary and secondary schools under government aided and private management will operate as half-day schools from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch is served at 12:30 pm.
However, the special classes of Class 10 students for preparations for the SSC Public Examination will continue. The schools that have SSC exam centers will operate from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., ANI reported.
Notably, in 2022, the state government has also introduced half-day school hours from March 15 to the last working day of the 2021-2022 school year due to rising temperatures.
Meanwhile, India’s Meteorological Temperature (IMD) has already predicted a heat wave for several states including Kerala, Mumbai, Konkan and Kutch. It also warned Goa of a heat wave, which led to the closure of schools before noon last week.
