Will Smith returns to the awards ceremony on the 14thy The Beverly Wilshire AAFCA Annual Awards on Wednesday in Beverly Hill, Calif. This award show was Smith’s first appearance since his appearance at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Will Smith at the Beacon Awards

Will Smith’s return at the awards show comes as this year’s award season draws to a close. The actor took to the stage to accept his Beacon Award for Emancipation. Will Smith is also joined by actor Charmaine Bengoa and director Antoine Fuqua.

Will Smith began his talk by highlighting the importance of the Bacon Awards because they present films with challenging subjects that engage and enlighten audiences. They hoped the emancipation would highlight Peter’s triumphant story along with his deep love and unwavering faith for his family. In his speech, Smith said that Emancipation was one of the most difficult films he had worked on in his entire career. The actor said it was really difficult to convert “the modern mind back to that time period”. It was hard for the actor to imagine this level of inhumanity.

Director Antoine Fuqua thanked the cast and crew for their support.

Will Smith was previously absent from the NAACP Image Awards and won Best Actor for his portrayal of Peter. He later posted on Instagram to thank the organization as well as the crew while explaining how much it means to be recognized in this way.

During an appearance at the 2022 Academy Awards, actor Chris Rock slapped his face for mocking his wife. Moments after the ceremony, Smith won Best Actor. This procedure by Smith was heavily criticized on the Internet and he was subsequently banned from the Academy Awards for ten years.
