Zach Braff on How Ms. Florence Pugh Inspired ‘A Good Person’ – The Hollywood Reporter


Zach Braff talks Florence Pugh’s inspiration for his upcoming movie good guy.

“I was just amazed at her talent and I said, ‘I want to write this for Florence. What I’m writing is going to be really challenging and she’s amazing.” Entertainment tonight During an interview posted online on Monday.

While talking about the movie Monday episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonthe Midsmar The actress said, “There’s a lot of ease in reading the script when someone knows how you talk and how far they can push you and what you can do, so it was just fun. A lot of fun.”

The legendary actor who ended up playing Pugh was Morgan Freeman. Braff said that although the Oscar-winning actor usually “doesn’t usually make independent films” or “films that don’t have financing yet,” he decided to send him the script anyway.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is going to take two weeks to read and then we get a no,'” he recalled. “[But] He called me the next day and said he didn’t say hello! Florence picked up the phone and said Morgan Freeman on it. And he didn’t even say hello, I picked him up and said, “I see myself on every page of this script.” And I said, “Does that mean yes?” Then he said, “That means yes.”

The drama follows Alison (Pugh), a young woman who has been thriving in life, when everything takes a turn when she survives an unimaginable tragedy and becomes addicted to opioids. In the years that followed, she formed an unlikely friendship with her would-be father-in-law, Daniel (Freeman) and helped put her life back together.

Braff also explained that he’s experienced a lot of loss over the past several years, including his sister, his father, and his best friend, and that played into it when it came to writing the movie.
