Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath Worried As World Could Be Hit With ‘Friendship Recession’ Here’s What He Says

News

Nithin Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, who recently made the 2023 Forbes World’s Billionaires List along with his older brother and business partner Nithin, reminded people about the importance of friendships in life in May.

According to him, the world could be hit by a ‘friendship recession’.

Kamath took to Twitter and shared a graphic describing the American Perspectives study by Daniel Cox. It says that ‘friendship recession is the increase in people missing a certain number of close friends and fewer people to rely on in times of crisis’.

Also written in the image was, “Loneliness is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.”

The image shared more insights and further described how we form friendships and gave the answers like: school or growing up together, work, shared hobbies and online friendships.

The owner of the stockbroker said he has five friends who are like a brother to him and he would do anything for them. He also said his friendships are “life-changing.”

Here’s his tweet:

Among other things, Kamath also shared a detailed chart about human connections and their importance, saying that friendships are crucial to well-being. All charts were created using data from author Rishard Reeves’ video “The Friendship Recession” on expert discussion portal Big Think, an Amercian Enterprise Institute and 2021 Amercian Perspectives Survey.

Apart from this, Kamath also shared three more images that elaborated on the importance of friendships.
